Portishead
Sour Times
Portishead's music
could easily fit the sound of an artsy horror movie; deep,
melancholic, sedate, but yet filled with a tension
wanting to burst out. This is clearly obvious in the restrained
vocals and bass line, but also in the tiny elements of Noise they
project. It is thus no surprise that they decided to make a film
To Kill a Dead Man to promote their music. They have been
described as "ambient hip-hop", but the first thing
that comes to mind when I listen to them is jazz. These guys are
the riding the
crest of the wave of British bands crossing the Atlantic.
